Welcome to the Virtual Museum of Prehistoric Monte Penide. This website aims to provide information about Monte Penide, also known as Monte Mirallo, and the important archaeological sites to be found on its slopes, covering a period of at least 4000 years of prehistory.

Monte Penide/Monte Mirallo is located on the southern bank of the ría (coastal inlet formed by drowned river valley) of Vigo, in the southest of the Municipality of Redondela. It forms part of a small, low, mountain chain, whose highest peaks (i.e. Monte Penide; Trasmañó) only reach 450m.

Since the Neolithic the tradition of burying the dead in burial chambers beneath an earthen mound extended along the Atlantic façade of Europe.
